Flathead Soccer Camp 2008
The annual Flathead Soccer Camp will be held this year at the camp fields located at 1500 Holt Stage. Camp dates are July 21-August 1. Our goal is to provide an high level of experienced youth coaches from the collegiate and club level. An outstanding camp coaching staff this year will include:

Head Coach: Mark Plakorus from Texas Christian University. Mark is a USSF “A” licensed coach with former coaching experience at USAFA, University of Iowa, University of Tulsa and as a Region IV ODP coach. He has played professionally and was a player/coach for the Colorado Springs Ascent.

Staff Coaches:
Lisa Oyen from the University of Arizona; Lisa was a former UM team captain and MVP, played professionally with the Miami Glide (team captain), is an Arizona ODP coach and a graduate of the Manchester United Soccer Schools and Bobby Charlton Sports Schools.

Matt Paton from Manhattenville College in New York. Matt is a USSF “B” licensed and a NSCA Advanced National Diploma holder. Former coaching experience at East Connecticut State, Colorado, Iowa and Nevada

Heather Olson (Paton) is a former Division I standout at the UM and is a National Strength and Conditioning Association specialist.

DeVan Anderson is the club director for the Samba Soccer Club in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a USSF “B” licensed coach, a former Region XII NJCAA coach of the year for 1996 and 2000. In addition he is also a FIFA referee.

Tim Gunzler from Bozeman is the former men’s head coach at FVCC and has served as technical director for the Avalanche Soccer Club. Many of his former players have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Jeff Panik from the University of Great Falls men’s soccer program; former Tri-C Ohio Athletic Conference 1st Team and All-American.

This is a non-residential camp for our local players although we have players coming from Florida, Washington, Colorado, Texas and Canada this year. Camp registrations forms can be found on-line at www.flatheadsoccer.com or call 406-752-8448 ext. 40 if any questions.

Flathead Soccer Camp is excited to help sponser the Lady Griz Soccer team August 19-August 25. They will be training at the FSC fields. Coach Sedgwick said he will be happy to have a question and answer session one night. We will know more about this when I know their practice schedule. I will post it at camp in July. I would encourage any of our highschool coaches for the young ladies (and players or parents) to give me a call so I can discuss this further. 253-6122(c) or 756-6282(h)

FSC is drawing near and we are going to limit participation to around 200 players in order to have a good coach to player ratio. It is starting to fill up so if local players are planning on attending I would encourage them to get their registration in ASAP. We have a group from Bozeman already registered. I have some coming from Seattle and a call from British Collumbia. Their kids played in the Three Blind Ref’s tournament and they heard about the camp and want to come down.

We have another outstanding line-up of coaches with lead coach Mark Plakorus. Billy McNicol is an assistant with the WNT so unfortunately we will not have him this year. We have coaches from U. of Redlands, US AirForce Academy, Manhanttenville College in New York, University of Arizona, andformer profesional player from the Galaxy who played on the Nigerian U-23 National team. We will have two ladies this year. Lisa Oyen will be back plus Heather Olsen who is one of the leading all-time scorer for the Lady Griz. Just talked to Billy and he is working on our last coach. It will be a great staff as usual so everyone appreciates that high caliber that FSC brings into the valley. If any questions please give me a call.

Grizzly Soccer Camp is running half-day and full-day camps (Boys & Girls) at three locations this summer: Missoula June 18-22, Helena June 25-29, and Great Falls (dates TBA).

They’re also offering a week long residential camp for girls ages 11-18 during the week of July 22nd.

The camp is run by Neil Sedgwick, Head Women’s Soccer Coach, University of Montana. He’ll also have Grizzly coaching staff, current and past Grizzly players, as well as coaches from around the Northwest and Canada.

Columbia Falls Youth Soccer is hosting a Challenger soccer camp the week of 7/16/2007 - 7/20/2007 at their fields - Horine Field at Hilltop Park, Talbot Rd, Columbia Falls, MT 59912.

Columbia Falls Challenger Soccer Camp

FSC 2007 will be July 23 thru noon August 3.

This will be the 12th of the camp which started out with 30 boys the first year.
Now we have 200+ boys and girls from U-10 through U-18.

Head coach will be Mark Placorus from University of Tulsa.
Technical Director/Coach Selector will be Billy McNicol - Assistant Coach U.S. Women’s National Team, former coach LA Galaxy.

We will have 7 coaches this year: 6 field coaches and 1 goalkeeper coach.

The last two years we have had Steve Gonzales who was the LA Galaxy reserve team goalkeeper. He did a great job as evidenced by the keep play for Flathead and Whitefish.

Camp is non-residential so mainly the players are from the Flathead Valley although we do have kids from Polson, Libby and as far away as Bozeman, Billings and Great Falls.

Many times former campers who are playing collegiately come to workout prior to college. They come as our guest. Reward for all their hard work and to be role models for the kids to see that Montana boys and girls can play at the next level.

In this small corner of the State we had the:

• Class A Boys State Champions
• Class A Girls State Champions
• Class AA Boys State Champion
• Class AA third place for the Girls
• Stillwater Christian boys took the State title for the Christian school league

Not bad with 4 championships and a third out of a possible 5.
